Seville – Santiponce 22.1km

Our journey on the Camino Via de la Plata started on the 10th May 2023. We started in Seville, where we hopped in an Uber to retrieve our bikes from storage. Once we loaded up our panniers and gear, we set off towards the Plaza de Espana!

The traffic was heavy, but luckily, we had access to a bike path. I found the first camino marker which was very exciting.

A total of 26km of riding today. After stopping for water and an icy pole, we arrived at Italica Hostel. Mum spoke Spanish and some English words for the Spanish she didn’t know. Despite the language barrier, we settled into our girls-only room and shared stories of our travels today with the other pilgrims.

In search of relief from the 37oC heat, we ventured out to find a bar with air conditioning. My ice-cold lemon drink tasted even better after a hot day riding. For dinner, we enjoyed tapas before wandering the streets. Along the way, I encountered 11 cats, and one in particular took a liking to me and followed me down the street. I had hoped it would follow bd all the way back to the albergue and sleep on my bed!

Nearby, we stumbled upon some Roman ruins, which Mum managed to capture a photo of through a hole in the fence.

Exhausted from our first day camino adventure, I eagerly climbed into the top bunk and quickly fell off to sleep.
