The Dog on the Tuckerbox is an Australian historical monument 5 miles from Gundagai. The history of statue goes back to the poem “Bullock Bill” written by Bowyang Yorke in 1857.
Let me tell you about the first time we stopped at the ‘Dog on the tuckerbox’. We were on our way home from our trip around Australia and this was the last stop. I remember it being a really hot day and mum bought us icy poles. There is a wishing well surrounding the dog on the tuckerbox.
Grace was holding her 20 cent coin in one hand and her icy pole in her other hand. Mum said ‘Throw it in and make a wish”. Next minute I seen an icy pole flying through the air into the pond. I turned and Grace was holding her 20 cent coin!
In I went and got the icy pole from the water. Grace gave it a big lick and mum rolled her eyes!
Fours years later, Grace managed to hold her icecream and throw the coin in! We all laughed!
