The aqueduct transported water from the Rio Frio river which is 17 km up in the mountains.
Built in the 1st Century AD. The water runs down from the mountain on a slight angle. The water goes into the middle of the city. The water was held into a large tank. They had to wait for the sand to settle. There were bends and deeper spots in the channel and the sand would settle there so they could scoop it out.
It is not held together with mortar. The stones are all placed very carefully. There was little stones put into the gaps.
We walked along the bottom of it and through an arch way. The tallest part is 28m high. The arch pillars give the very high aqueduct strength and support.
