Roman Roads

The Roman Empire built roads so they could  move goods, farm produce and minerals.

Roman roads have many layers. Dad found this picture on how the roads are made.

The roads would transport the legionaries quickly through the county.

The Romans made many things roads, viaducts and bridges. The major roads were 6-8m wide this is like our roads now.

They had maps of their roads so travellers could work out how long a trip would take, with hotels, inns and stables about every 50km. They also had marker stones to show distance like we do these days. The map dad found shows lots of roman roads.

Some of the Camino paths are parts of Roman roads. Only the big rocks are left now.

Even if Grace wanted to go in the pram for a rest it was too tough for the pram.
