Otago Rail Trail – DAY THREE

September 29, 2019 0 Comments

We had a bit of a sleep in then we were off for day three. Today we are riding from Oteuhea to Ranfurly 26km. It was a long 12km up hill. The man at the pub gave mum some bubble wrap to sit on to help her sore butt bones!

There are lots of grids to cross. I ride straight across all the grids. Mum gets off and walks her bike through, she is scared of falling off half way. When riding the trail sometimes you can see the road beside us as we ride like in this photo, other times it is through paddocks.

I found a birds nest on the way. I had to get mum to check it for eggs as it was it a bush that had massive thorns. The nest was empty.

We arrived at the highest point of the track everyone was excited as that means done hill for most of the remaining trip.

We hoped the cafe was open half way for a milkshake but on Sunday it was closed. We stopped to look at Wedderburn Station and met a local man that said Ranfurly sold MASSIVE SAUSAGE ROLLS … so off we went!

More DOWN HILL … I got up to 42 km/hr … mum was not happy!

Tonight we are staying at Ranfurly. We went to the tourist information building and watch a video on the trail when the trains still operated. The last train was in 1990. Since then the Department of Conservation took over running the rail trail. All the rail track was taken up and now it is just a dirt track.

I am going to verse Grace in pool tonight.
