When riding my bike in Galicia I could see lots of grain storage sheds. These small sheds were on pillars of rock. They were all the same with a rectangle shelf and made of cut stone and wood. They are very very old and from the Celtic times who were the first farmers in Spain.
They used to store dried crops. Corn is the most stored crop in Galicia.
They are off the ground so the rats and mice can not climb up and in. It also keeps it dry in heavy rain. The shed has gaps in the wood a little bit to let the air in so the corn does not get mould.
At the bottom of the sheds the farmers keep cats and little dogs to scare the rats and mice away.
Mum took took a photo of a man painiting his grain shed.
