We visited the Alcazar in Seville, Spain. The word Alcazar means Royal House or Room of the Prince. It was built by Moorish Muslim Kings. The upper levels of the Alcazar are still used by the royal family. It is the oldest royal palace still used in Europe and is an UNESCO World Heritage Site.
It had a massive garden with still water features and lots of ponds.
It had box hedges, palm trees, orchards, and a maze made of plants.
There was peacocks roaming around looking after their baby chicks.
Inside there was a large dome. They got the gold leaf for it from South America to cover the dome.
There are tiles all over the walls and floors that are very old. The tiles are hand painted or carved. The tiles all have patterns on them. The tiles in some rooms formed into bigger shapes.
Inside there was also large tapestries, some were of an old map of Spain and battles. The tapestry below is of Spain, Portugal, France and Africa. It is upside down compared to the maps we normally see today.
