Rio – Puebla de Sanabria 44km
1 June 2023
Sipped the last mouthful of my cup of tea and soaked up a little sun on the chilly morning. Shutting the albergue door as we were the last to leave, the hikers had set off earlier at sunrise.
Upon reaching Bar Maeco in Pue, it was great to sight to spot familiar faces and catch up over a cup of coffee. As the group gathered at the cafe, Braco made his entrance and joined in. Barco wasted no time in testing Taylor’s memory of yesterday’s Spanish lesson at the albergue. Once satisfied with Taylor’s recall, Barco introduced a few more Spanish words to the mix. From a distance, it was quite amusing to observe their language exchange.
Some sensors taken then back on the trail After conquering numerous hills, we finally reached Puebla de Sanberi, only to embark on another uphill trek to explore a magnificent castle. Not a little uphill, as Grace woukd note 231 steps! Thirsty and hungry we indulged in a scrumptious lunch consisting of a range of dishes; white asparagus, tuna, beef cheeks and soup, all enjoyed in the charming plaza where friendly cats eagerly accepted our affectionate pats.
Our strenuous activities called for a luxurious stay at a Parador, complete with spacious beds, crisp white linens, a bubble bath and fragrant lotions to soothe our tired muscles.
